About
Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone is a multi-talented artist, poet, educator, and community leader. As a Governor's Award winner and Kennedy Center Artist Fellowship Finalist Nominee, she has made significant contributions to the Dayton arts scene. She is the President, Artistic Director, and Co-Founder of Home of Urban Creative Arts. Her projects, such as "The Signature: A Poetic Medley Show" and "The Last Poet Standing," have brought together diverse communities through poetry, music, dance, and visual arts.
Sierra's commitment to social impact is evident in her work with youth and women. Through Signature Educational Solutions, she empowers young people and women to reach their full potential. Her public art installations, such as "Spirit of a Flyer" and "Gathering Space," enhance the urban landscape and inspire reflection.

Sierra's literary talent shines through her poetry and playwriting. Her work has been commissioned by numerous organizations, including the Dayton Philharmonic and the Seed of Life 8/4 Memorial. Her latest project, a chapbook titled "not my story, but my dust," promises to further explore themes of identity, community, and resilience.
As the inaugural Artist-in-Residence at the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, Sierra is collaborating with local artists and organizations to advance inclusive democracy through the arts. Her unique blend of artistic vision, social consciousness, and business acumen makes her a powerful force in the arts community.

“Many of us often don’t see the connections between democracy and our daily lives. Sierra is an artist who makes democracy personal and tangible, both in her work and through her connections with people.”
Joni Doherty, senior program officer for Democracy and the Arts.
“She walked out of the cage created by her own
fears and claimed her freedom.”
